Complete mechanical and plumbing design for a 39,000 SF, two story education and technology center for San Diego Community College District. The facility includes classrooms, meeting rooms, computer labs, culinary arts, parenting, sewing, art, yoga, tennis, learning resource center, business information technology, English as a Second Language, career center library, bookstore, and administration facilities. The mechanical system is designed with low-velocity ductwork and enhanced vibration isolation of equipment to accommodate the acoustical requirements of the project. It also includes high efficiency rooftop package variable air volume units, high efficiency heating hot water boiler system and integrated Direct Digital Control (DDC) system. Natural ventilation is also included to maintain high air quality.
Low-flow and waterless plumbing fixtures reduce water consumption by over 40% as compared to a standard building, saving an estimated 386,000 gallons of water per year. A 750 gallon grease interceptor is installed to serve the culinary arts kitchen.
This project is LEED Gold certified.
