Complete mechanical and plumbing design for a five-story career training center above grade with a half level below grade, and a ten-story parking structure with 700 stalls. The facility includes a campus police facility, cosmetology, nursing and photography departments, a lecture hall that can accommodate about 125 students, classrooms, meeting rooms, digital imaging labs and administrative spaces. The nursing facility includes a nursing simulation and skills lab, complete with computer simulation lab and simulation practice models. The photography facility includes darkrooms and studios, three digital print labs, and a gallery to display student work. The cosmetology facility includes state-of-the-art instructional labs for students pursuing specialty programs in skin & hair care, along with retail service areas.
The mechanical system is designed with low-velocity ductwork and enhanced vibration isolation of equipment to accommodate the acoustical requirements of the project. It also includes high efficiency rooftop package variable air volume units, high efficiency heating hot water boiler system and integrated Direct Digital Control (DDC) system.
Plumbing systems consist of complete sanitary waste & vent, domestic hot & cold water, and ultra low flow plumbing fixtures, including dual flush valves and waterless urinals. A de-ionized water system is provided for the digital imaging laboratories.
This project has been awarded a LEED Gold Certification, as well as a 2011 Higher Education Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Best Practice Award for overall sustainable design.
