Mechanical and plumbing design for the renovation of the existing 30,000 SF three-story Science Building, as well as the addition of a new 32,900 SF, two-story Science Building adjacent to the existing facility known as Sator Hall and Latter Hall. The new facility accomodates the increasing number of students who want to study science at PLNU, with nearly 40% of PLNU’s undergraduate students majoring in science related fields.
The existing facility consists of mostly offices on the third floor, labs and lecture on the second floor, classrooms on the first floor and biology and an animal handling area on the basement level.
The new building consists of Organic and General Chemistry and labs on the second floor and Biology and storage areas on the first floor. There are also four attached classrooms that can accomodate over 280 students.
The laboratory areas contain fume hoods, flammable storage safety cabinets, canopy hood, snorkel fume extractor, autoclaves and environmental rooms. The plumbing systems include various laboratory process piping, such as vacuum, compressed air, acid waste systems, specialty, nitrogen, and natural gases.
