This project involves upgrading a central chiller plant and implementing Siemens’ Demand Flow control strategy. The Demand Flow control technology allows for optimized performance of the new ultra-efficient all-variable-speed chilled-water plant at any given load point. In addition to all variable-speed operation, the chilled water loop was converted from primary/secondary/tertiary to primary/tertiary and the heat rejection loop was completely redesigned.
The new chiller plant consists of the following equipment: McQuay magnetic frictionless chiller, oversized cooling towers, and high-efficiency condensing boilers.
The KW/TON for the entire central plant went from 1.4kw/ton to 0.4kw/ton, a 70% energy savings. This project was awarded $113,000 of energy incentives from SDG&E.
MA Engineers also designed the boiler upgrade.
