Mechanical and plumbing design for an approximately 161,846 SF Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQ) located at Naval Base San Diego. The building is 7-stories tall, and includes 161 units, each with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths and houses 4 Sailors. Additionally, the project includes the construction of a multi-level 269,787 SF parking structure for 800 parking spaces.
Exterior amenities include a full basketball court, running track (1/4 mile), outdoor amphitheater and congregation plaza with seating and gathering space for over 100 people, and shaded picnic/cooking areas while addressing storm water control, fire authority access, trash removal and (ATFP) set back distances.
Mechanical systems include 4-pipe fan coil units serving the living spaces and common areas. Chilled water is supplied by a 300 ton aircooled chiller, and heating hot water by two condensing boilers.
Plumbing systems include two condensing boilers serving the plumbing fixtures. Solar panels provide 30% of the building’s hot water demand.
This project is LEED Platinum certified, and was awarded the American Public Works Association (APWA) Public Works Project of the Year for its Sustainable/Green design by the San Diego/Imperial Chapter.
