Mechanical systems design for this 40,000 SF, design/build two-story federal courthouse with a 21-stall above-grade secure parking area. Hosted departments of the facility include the U.S. Marshal’s office, U.S. Probation, District Clerk and the Pretrial Department. The facility includes offices, holding cells, transport areas, detention areas, a command center, FATS simulation training, fitness space, courtrooms,
conference space and judges’ chambers.
The mechanical systems consists of multiple high-efficiency large rooftop packages with a VAV-reheat system. A high-efficiency gas-fired boiler is used to produce heating hot water for the building. The entire HVAC system is equipped with state-of-the-art energy management and Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems. The ductwork is designed for low velocity to accommodate acoustical requirements. This project is below California State energy standard (Title 24) by nearly 30%.
This groundbreaking design meets the fullest criteria of the 2003 federal An -Terrorism Force Protection guidelines, including a state-of-the-art exhaust for airborne pathogens control. Examples include HEPA filters and provisions against agents such as tuberculosis in the holding cells and secured transport areas as well as high-exhaust and negative pressure in the mailroom for the control of biohazards such as Anthrax.
